10th January Prayer

Lord,

Today, teach me to listen.

Before I speak, before I decide, before I react, help me to pause and attend to You. So much of this day will ask for words, opinions, and answers. Let my first response be attentiveness rather than haste.

Quiet what is restless in me.
Soften what is defensive.
Give me the grace to hear what is being asked of me, and what is not.

When I am tempted to fill silence with noise, remind me that You often speak there.
When I am uncertain, keep me from rushing toward certainty for its own sake.
When I am misunderstood, let me remain gentle.

I place this day before You, not asking to be right, but to be faithful. Not to be noticed, but to be attentive.

Remain with me, Lord,
and teach me how to listen.

Amen.
